I work at a Spirit Halloween, literally less than an hour before I permanently close my store for the season a lady came in demanding a refund for a product she bought over a week ago. On the receipt she was waving in my face it literally said "All sales final after October 25th". I asked what was wrong with the costume, as I usually am happy to do a refund against policy for something legitimately defective but... Nothing was wrong with it. She had bought a child size costume that said for ages

calling me names and telling me I was terrible at my job, then said that I was stealing from her and that she was going to call the police. I laughed in her face, because clearly she had no ground to stand on. She actually called 911 and wasted emergency dispatch time for this sh. The cops showed up, I told them what had happened when they came in to ask, and they immediately took her outside and had to spend the next 10 minutes trying to explain why she cannot call 911 for a retail dispute, tha

d84doc Should've told her you were closing in less than an hour but if she comes back anytime after today you'd totally help her out.

Noizyninjaz If it makes you feel better, I work at a large theme park. People dial 911 when the ride goes down for 5 minutes. It happens all the time.

Anticlimax1471 Some people just never grew up. When they were children, if something happened to them that wasn't "fair", they told mommy or daddy, and got it sorted. Calling the cops is the adult equivalent for them, because they never learned to deal with things themselves.

Sassy-Pants-x At least you have a good story to tell friends and family. People are crazy.

jerry_527 Hey feel lucky that a real life cop showed up

LookAway Please510 It's super sus that she bought the costume before Halloween and brought it back after. I doubt there's a 17 year old kid. I wish that when people called the police for things like that, they would have to spend one night in jail for wasting their time, or obstruction of justice.

zaosafler I wish they would just enforce the laws on the books. Almost every jurisdiction in the US has a law regarding misuse of 911. And they are almost never enforced.

Lokidemon As a retired LEO I can tell you that people have forgotten that 911 is for emergencies, not civil problems like this. Cops have to waste so much time responding to things like this because we can't say "no we won't respond to that" because you never know what it might turn into. Sorry you went through that.

ianmoone1102 I'm seriously about done with human interaction entirely. A few years ago, this kind of thing would have been an anomaly. Now, it's almost commonplace. Between feral children who haven't had 5 minutes of real upbringing, and adults who forgot that they're part of a society, i honesty feel like an alien on a distant planet, where there is NO INTELLIGENT LIFE. I feel your pain. I don't know how you can tolerate a job that requires constant dealing with the general public. I choose to
